Thinking about trying this and losing my home landline/DSL. Which is
the best modem to buy and is this service worth messing with?

Charter techs visit/post there and will advise you on the choice of modems
as well. I'm using the modem they gave away during a promotion, which has
served me well, it's an Ambit. I think most users over there recommend
Motorola 4100/up. It's worth a visit in any case.
