- Comcast 3mb When? Ever?
- Posted by livecam on January 17th, 2004
I live in Southern California where the upgrade date was supposedly 1/13 and
then 1/17. Things are still at 1.5mb down. Does Comcast have a site that
casts these dates in stone? Can we ever expect a speed increase or maybe
just a rate increase?

Well...did you ask them? And if so, what did they say?

When it happened here in Maryland, it was just something I happened to
notice when visiting one of the McAfee Internet Speedometer sites. I
thought it was a mistake by Comcast, but when we talked to Comcast a
few days later about another matter, they informed us that the
increase was planned. We received an official confirmation email a
couple of days after that.

I think Comcast has realized that this is more difficult than they
originally expected. You can see how in some areas the speed increase
resulted in major slowdowns due to bottlenecks. They appear to have pushed
back the dates to give them more time to upgrade and add more capacity.
That in itself has been causing havoc in areas at times. The Chicago area
went through it in December, but it seems to be mostly settled down now.
Also, I don't think there are any official dates. What has been posted
are probably leaks/guesses, and shouldn't be considered reliable.

Have you checked your Comcast home page? They had a posted schedule back
when I was waiting for my speed increase.

Here in Boston, Ma our speeds have doubled. Not sure what it is in the
"Mbit" range, but I went from downloading movies at 200Kbs to 400+ Kbs, so
close to 1/2 a megabyte a sec.
