Comcast's disabling of SNMP and DocsDiag?
Posted by John Smith on September 29th, 2003

I understand that Comcast has disabled user side SNMP and thus DocsDiag (for
the MS Java VM) will not get a response from my Motorola SB5100 when using
Microsoft's VM Java v3810.

Interesting however, I also installed Sun's Java Virtual Machine (which can
co-exist with the MS Java VM in Windows XP) and installed the alternative
DocsDiag available for use with the Sun VM and guess what .... I get a full
readout of levels and caps even with SNMP supposedly disabled.

How can this can be? I'm completely dumb-founded. Can anyone help with an
explanation?

Also, this alternative DocsDiag version lists my modem configuration file as
hsd1.5m.cfg .... What is this file and where would I find it. Is it
tweakable, etc? I searched my computer and can not find it.

Many Thanks .... JS

I used Sun JVM, don't know anything about an alternative
DocsDiag, still does not work on Roadrunner Toshiba PCX1100
cable modem.

All it takes is a Google.com search with the three following words:

Docsdiag
Download
Sun

Here is the link to Google's first hit:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/docsdiag/

Just read the page and it has all the info you'll need.

I don't think there is anything special about that docsDiag.
But it is packaged with a bat file that adds a community
string parameter (default would be "public"). Sure wish I
knew what community string TW/Minnesota uses -- I have modem
with no web status page so docsDiag was my only way to get
status. Then TW disabled that.
