- Conexant high speed to generic low speed connection
- Posted by Lewis on October 16th, 2003
I need to know how to force a given connect speed using my new
laptop's built in "Conexant D480 MDC V.92 Modem". With my old
USRobotics, I used the "at&n1" to force 300 baud, and it worked like a
charm, to connect to environmental data collection platforms. (These
remote devices have a fairly short timeout; if you don't establish a
modem connection quickly they assume you are making a voice call and
deliver a voice synthesized message... of little use to me.)
Any advice is welcome. Conexant offers no help, nor have I found
anything at modemhelp.org. Thanks in advance.

AT command manuals can be found here:

I think the relevant command in your case is probably AT+MS=V21.

Thanks for the pointer to some very useful documents, Franc.
Unfortunately, I'm still getting no joy.
After trying the command you suggested, I also tried adding the
following commands:
\n0 - normal mode, no error correction
%e0 - Disable line quality monitor, auto-retrain, and autorate
renegotiation
%c0 - Disable data compression
+MS=B103 - remote DCP modem might use Bell 103 modulation
Can't say I tried every combination of these commands, but the result
always seems to be "NO CARRIER". I seem to get farther with the B103
modulation, as the remote system whistles until the local system times
out; with V21 the remote system goes to "announce" mode after trying
for about 10 seconds.
Again, thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Does this modem in fact support Bell 103 300b/s operation ??
The User's Guide at:
http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/comm/eclipse/en/intro.htm
while skimpy and incomplete, implies that it does not.
Quote from the Introduction:
"Data mode capabilities: ITU-T V.3; extended rates: 33.6 Kbps-2400
bps"

Thanks, Don, that's the same document I found at the vee90.net site
that Franc referred me to.
(I should have noted that the e-mail address I use for posting has
become irretrievably spam infested... dealing with that is another
topic...)
