Conexant init string
Posted by Nick Le Lievre on January 12th, 2006

Hi I have to use this init string to connect to my ISP;

+MS=V90,0,,,44000,52000

The modem is a USR5661a which is apparently a rebadged conexant. The modem
in my brothers old PC was a conexant and the same init string got that modem
connected to my ISP.

He wants to connect the modem in his new PC to my ISP its a Conexant CNXT
56k PCI I think I already tried the init string and it didn't work but I`m
not really sure.

Would an init string work across all conexant modems or do they differ also
any idea where I might find an init string for this CNXT modem without
removing it from the PC to get further info.

I`ve been searching google groups and have found the below information to be
what I`m looking for;
+MS=12,0,44000,52000 (ACF) V.90 is required connect min 44k, max 52k
+MS=V90,0,,,44000,52000 (HCF,HSF) V.90 is required connect min 44k, max 52k

So if I tried the init string and it didn't work it must mean that his CNXT
modem is an ACF modem (hardware modem).

You can identify the modem type by looking at the part numbers on the
bigger chips, or by querying the modem using ATI commands, or by
checking the Modem Diagnostics in Control Panel. You could also use
HyperTerminal to send the following command:

AT+MS=?
