Im trying to figure out why this computer keeps connecting at slow speeds
and then has frequent sometimes almost instant disconnects.
I tried dialing into both AOL and another local ISP, and the same thing
happens. I also tried hooking up to a different line/different number in the
house and it works fine.
I then ran a long phone line extension outside the house to the Network
Interface Box, and plugged directly into it and had the same problems.
Verizon says there is nothing wrong when they checked it from the office,
and they also sent a truck out today and he didn't find anything wrong with
the lines either?
Im debating on tossing in a different modem or possibly trying an init
string to limit connection speed. I just don't understand why it connects
fine to the one line (which is wired to a separate NIB) and has so much
trouble with the other.
I guess the street wiring to the one NIB could be somewhat compromised, and
for whatever reason the modem cant tolerate whatever issues exist on that
line where as it can on the other.
Verizon as usual wont guarantee Data on a voice line and or good connection
speeds. When we are able to connect on the problem line, the connection
speed is about 21kbps. When we connect through the other line the speed is
constantly up around 28kbps and no disconnects.
I have probably answered my own question here with trying a new modem. I
kind of doubt that the init string will do the trick but we will see.
Any other suggestions welcomed.
