- Dial type sounds instead of touch tone sounds
- Posted by EBL on July 25th, 2004
Hi--
I just got a new Dell PC with a modem, and I'm setting things up. I
notice that this modem (a Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem connected
to Com3) dials like an old rotary phone, whereas my old Dell dialed
using touch tone. Is there a way to change this?
Thanks!

Control Panel|Modems|Highlight your Modem, Right click, Choose
Properties|Dialing Properties Button. You should find a place there to
select Tone or Pulse dialing. This is for Win98SE, but it should be
similar for WinXP. Good luck.

Just hit start/control panel/modem options/dialing (first mitre) then
modify and choose touch tone instead of pulse dialing. Note that option
names may not correspond exactly, as I'm trying to translate from a
french windows version.
Hope that helps but anyway pulse and touch tone (or DTMF for dual tone
multi frequency) should both work to dial a number.

Thanks to both for the quick responses. I figured it had to be there
somewhere--I was just looking in the wrong place. I'm dialing with
tone now, and it's much faster!
