- Disconnections and modem's log
- Posted by Kleuz on November 10th, 2003
Hi all!
If after an unwanted disconnection the modem's log says this:
11-04-2003 17:03:03.68 - Remote modem hung up.
11-04-2003 17:03:05.68 - Recv: <no response>
11-04-2003 17:03:05.68 - WARNING: Unrecognized response. Retrying...
11-04-2003 17:03:05.69 - Hanging up the modem.
So it's the "remote" (server) modem which closed the connection, right? It's
NOT a problem of MY modem...
If it happens while I'm on IRC the message "Connection reset by peer" is
displayed, so my previous opinion should be right...
Thanks and regards.

Probably not. But it' possible the remote modem disconnected because of
problems it was having with your modem. Check post-call diagnostics for your
modem, if available.

How can I check if these diagnostics are available?
Thanks and greets!

Well, you start by identifying the chipset the modem uses.
Rockwell/Conexant chipsets use one (or more) of these:
at&v1
at#ug
at#ud (this one will require a utility program to decode the output but is
the best one).
USR/TI chipsets use:
ati6i11
Lucent/Agere chipsets use:
ati11
(and may also use at#ud)
