- Driver for Modem Blaster Needed Pls.
- Posted by User on March 14th, 2008
Hi. I'm looking for a modem driver for a Creative Modem Blaster v.90 PCI
DI5655. I just purchased this modem online (for $1!) but it didn't come with
any drivers. The only way I knew it was a Modem Blaster was because WinXP
installed the drivers for it itself but I'm guessing it's not the optimal
drivers.
Here is the info that WinXP shows under driver details:
Device Type: Modems
Manufacturer: ESS Technology Inc (eh?)
Driver Details: c:\windows\system32\DRIVERS\es56tpi.sys
c:\windows\system32\drivers\modem.sys
I looked at the modem itself and it does show that it's from Creative (with
a (not sure if it is)chip that says ATECH on it).
I took down the info on it too:
DI3635-Y 5655
FCCID#GX5USA-27261-DT-E
P/N 2450565500
I used the above information on Modemsite.com to find a driver but I didn't
find any.
Could any of the experts on this forum help me out? I would appreciate it
because right now I'm only connecting at 26.4kbps tops.
TIA!

You could try the drive at this link.

It seems to be intended for the product you describe above. It's not
exactly new, but it doesn't have to be new for a V.90 modem.

Oops! I should have checked that link because the download links are no
good anymore. Creative doesn't have a driver for this model at their
site. They have an ISA driver but not for the 5655. The one they have
is for the 5660. Also, you have a PCI card, so that probably won't work
anyway.
I've been searching DriverGuide.com, but haven't found an exact match
yet. DriverGuide is free to use, but you do have to register with the
site. I hadn't used it for years, but it's still there and kicking.

OK, I think I found the same driver that was at the
modem.free-driver-download.com site. It is at DriverGuide.com. I
successfully downloaded it, so it is available. It would be btter for
you to go directly to the DriverGuide site and get it from there. You
might also consider downloading their kit to check for compatibility.
Search for DI5655WXPDrv.EXE
You have to register in order to download, but there's no charge.

Good. I hope it improves the performance of the modem. Keep in mind
the possibility that your current line conditions may not support
anything better than the speeds you are getting. You can negotiate a
connection with a V.90 modem that is not any better than 26k. I've
actually seen that happen to me with a V.90 modem years ago. It has not
happened to my recollection at my current location, though I seldom use
dialup now (unless my cable is down).
