DSL Modems

If this isn't the right group for this please forgive me and redirect
my attention to the proper group.. I have had broadband for quite a
while but only cable internet through Cebridge(shaw) and Charter. Due
to a recent move I had to switch to Embarq(Sprint)DSL service as it is
the only broadband available other than expensive and slow satellite
services. I have noticed though that Ares my p2p service and the modem
provided Zyxel sp660 series dont get along to well. As soon as Ares
connects my speeds slow to a crawl. Also due to a crapped out router, I
am having to use the itegrated rourter for my network. My question is
will simply throwing the modem into bridge mode and replacing my router
solve this problem(my guess) or should I try a new modem. If the latter
is the proper choice what is compatible. I have had absolutley no luck
finding a modem that is not a zyxel that seems to be compatible. Embarq
does not use a username and pass (i think its refered to as PPoE). The
documentation simply says to set a replacement modem to the following:
Encapsulation: Enet Encap
VPI: 8
VCI: 35
ATM QoS: UBR

HELP please! Sorry for the long post
