I need to open my gate for deliveries when not home. Use a PC based
answering system. I have a small file that worked for some time, but
now does not for some reason. Maybe it's not long enough? File needs
to be PCM 8000hz 16bit. Ideas?

Certainly it would be possible to control electronic devices (including a
solenoid operated gate lock) from your PC via touch tones from an incoming
phone call - i.e. call in and leave an answer machine message of "9" to
unlock the gate. Electronics hobbyist shops often have kits for this sort of
pc interface robotics area. There are also companies which specialise in
control process projects who may be able to point you in the right
direction. The Yellow pages or search engines would help finding these. You
call also set it up to do other functions such as releasing the guard dog or
arming the doorstep laser canon depending what telephone tones were sent....
