- Elite2864I and remote config AT*F1 -> does not work
- Posted by Giulio Orsero on April 25th, 2004
Elite 2864I DSS1: V 3.01
Internal fax/modem: V 3.00a
We have some Elite2864I; for the first time I have the need to
read/write remote configs.
I see there is conflicting info about this functionality:
- some sites (resellers, ..) say the modem supports remote config
- zyxel site doesn't say anything
- manual for analog 2864 (doc # 8406 v1.0) says at*f1 enable remote
config (In understand 2864I is just an 2864 + ISDN module)
- a recent manual for 2864I (v.2.0) does not say anything.
AT&T4
AT*F1
both give ERROR.
I asked to ZyXEL via www support form, no answer from them.
Does anyone knows anything about this? Is remote configuration only for
the analog version of this modem?
Thanks

put finger to keyboard and composed:
I downloaded the firmware for this modem from:
ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/e2864i/firmware/....01_Europe.zip
FWIW, the file, "E28IEA.301", contains the following text strings:
*F0 Deny remote configuration
*F1 Accept remote configuration

I too see them, however issueing them produce an error.
I think maybe they removed this feature to make room for others (v.90?),
like they did for the online quick help:
== from firmware history
fixed issues in v2.00j
----------------------
.......
2. AT$ - The "Online Quick Reference Guide" function has been removed
because of limited space in Flash-EEPROM due to implementation of
new V.90 protocols.
===========
Also, while googling I found out that the default HylaFAX config file
for the elite carries this comment:
===
....
# *F0 Deny remote configuration
# (actually *F0 doesn't work in the firmware -- sigh)
....
===
So either they removed it or it's available after you "enable" it in
some weird way (some secrets atsXX command?)
It's worrying that on their web site there's no mention of "remote
config" in the elite page.
