Help: Courier V.Everything with corrupted firmware.
Posted by No Body on September 16th, 2004

I have an internal 25mhz Courier V.Everything modem that I bought used off
eBay a couple years ago. The modem was V.90 when I got it, but I didn't
receive anything with it, just the card.

A couple days ago, it stopped working and when I sent an ATI command to
the modem, it responded with a message that the firmware was corrupt and
that I should download new firmware.

I've downloaded the V.90 firmware from the USR site, but I haven't tried
using it yet because I managed to completely screw up the Windows
installation on that system and haven't yet had the ambition to re-install
everything. Right now I'm using a new system with a piece of crap Creative
"Win" modem in it.

Anyway, while looking up this problem on the net, I came across mention of
needing an "enable key" for flashing Courier modems with V.90 firmware.

I'm wondering if I'm going to run into problems trying to re-flash the
firmware (assuming that the modem hasn't just gone bad) or will the
firmware detect that it was previously flashed to V.90 and go in without
problems? I could be wrong, but I *THINK* the last time I turned that
system on, the BIOS identified the modem as a USR Courier V.Everything 56K.

you should be able to do so without problem, even if it's replacing
the same code. Of course that doesn't guarantee it will work again
after flashing it, but if I was in your situation, I would re-flash it
anyway, if I got the message you did after an ati command.

I agree it's probably a good idea to wait until you have a good
Windows install.
