How can I limit my Mac G4 modem speed?
Posted by Bill on August 31st, 2003

Yes, it's a strange question, but I think I'm connecting too fast to
my ISP. The G4's internal modem connection usually hits or exceeds
50k, but is not all that reliable. On the other hand, the external
Best Data modem on my old Performa 6115 usually connects a couple
steps slower and has a much more reliable connection. I think the G4's
internal modem is just being too aggressive in its connection rate and
I'd like to back it off to maybe 48k to see if it will stay connected
better. There are no such controls available to me in the OS-X
interface, though. Does anyone here know how to (a) find the modem
script on the G4 disk, and (b) edit it to set a max connection rate?

Thanks!

Franc,

That second link looks like it has the right info. Thanks! I now have
to determine which brand of modem is in my G4 Mac and edit (a copy of)
the modem script.
