- How to update USR 5610b modem firmware on Linux-only machine?
- Posted by Jim Haynes on November 2nd, 2005
Has anybody figured out a way to do this? The update USR supplies only
works under Windows (and I tried it unsuccessfully under WINE) and I don't
have Windows on the machine.

executable which runs the installation. Its sometimes possible to put the
modem into firmware update mode with certain commands in terminal mode and
then feed the binary into it but this will depend on the modem as well as
whether the firmware package can be disaseembed to get at just the raw
update file.
Easiest options would be:
1) Contact USR and ask them to do it as you dont have a windows machine or
2) Find someone you know with a windows pc and ask them nicely to use it for
this purpose

That's what I did, and what they told me was what you just said, that it
is probably possible and to ask around and you might find somebody who
has done it.
Well I have a Windows machine I could put the card into for the purpose, but
there is a matter of principle that you should not have to do that step.
