HSP micromodem windows 2000 problem
Posted by JoshB on July 9th, 2003

Hello,

Recently I purchased an internal HSP micromodem for a friend, however
after installing it, i can not get any dialtone at all. The modem is
definitly recognised asI can send and receive at commands, and I
specified the country to australia(which is correct) both with
windows(2000) dial up networking and hsp micromodem driver
configuration screen. A simple atdd #number return NO DIALTONE. Phone
is definitly working as an older 28.8 modem works flawlessly. Any
tips/comments apprecciated.

Your's Faithully,
Joshua Benson

Have you tried it with the same line cord that the 28.8 modem uses? The
correct AT command for dialing is ATDT<number> for tone dialing, or
ATDP<number> for pulse dialing. Is your phone line set up for tone or
pulse dialing? I have seen some reports that indicate some modems will
not pulse dial, even when given the ATDP command. Maybe your neighbor
Franc Zabkar can shed some light on this problem, since he is in AU.
Good luck.

I believe yours is a softmodem based on a PCtel chipset. Can you give
us more details, eg brand, model? Is the card a PCI, ISA, AMR (audio
modem riser) type? Does your mainboard have an onboard modem or AMR
slot?
