- Ideas on Wall Mounting Modem and Router
- Posted by Buck Turgidson on March 6th, 2004
In my home network, I have my router and modem on a laundry room shelf,
amidst a tangle of wires and cables. I would at least like to contain this
mess in a box or a rack mount somehow.
I found a cabinet at Home Depot that I can wall mount, and it would fit ok,
but it is a little big for what I need.
Has anyone done something like this, or know of any small cabinet made for
housing this mess?

I bought a little 3 shelf cabinet (left) and turned it upside down (right) :

| | | S|

and mounted it to the wall with angle brackets to the left of my monitor.
I put my cable modem C and router R on the top shelf and mounted it about
an inch from the wall so the cables could drop down the back. The other
two shelves are great storage for books, papers, etc and my left speaker S.
Seems you could do similar with a single shelf (which is really just 3 pieces
of wood put together) and maybe some sort of cable drop to cover the wires.
The best part is that I can see the lights on C and R from my computer
chair just by raising my eyes.

modem and router don't make much heat but there is some. Since they
sit on the desk it is not an issue but it is something to consider I
suppose.
YMMV
FWIW
