- Posted by icehawk940 on March 31st, 2005
Hello
i was wondering if anyone had the initialization string for the Intel
537EP modem? i am using a software fax program and it will not work
till i put the correct intialization string for the modem. i am
running a dell 4700 system pentium 4 3.0ghz 160gig hard drive. i also
noticed if i tried replacing the modem in this pc the onboard ethernet
card will not work? anyone know how to get around this i would just
like to replace this modem but the ethernet card not working when
another modem is installed is a problem.
Thanks for your help

Try one of these:
+MS=V92,0,
+MS=K56,0,
+MS=V90,0,
+MS=56,1,32000,56000
+MS=12,1,32000,56000
S32=98
S32=34
S38=0

needed for any decent modem with the correct inf file/drivers installed is
"AT&F" which will set it to factory settings but then there shouldn't be a
requirement to put that in. Was the fax program designed for use with this
particular modem because if it wasn't (as is the case with many OEM products
supplied with, and for the exclusive use with, certain modems), no
initialisation string in the world will get it to work. Intel 537EP refers
to the chipset you have, not the actual make and model of the product - do
you know its make and model?
The issue with your network card stopping when you install another modem is
likely related to a resource conflict. If you're not to up to speed with the
inside of PCs and how they work, the simplest way around the issue is
probably to get the supplier of your new modem (if you're going to get one),
to install and configure it as well. If the software came with the modem and
you want to keep it, then you're best option would be to contact the modem
supplier (or Dell if it came with your PC) and explain it to them.
