- Linksys modem "hesitates"
- Posted by Chris Eilersen on September 1st, 2005
I just bought a new Linksys cable modem BEFCMU10 to replace the rental from
Charter I've been using. I registered the MAC address with Charter and it
does work.
However, it seems to "hesitate" (sites don't load smoothly) after I hit a
site. I'm also using a Linksys wireless-g router and haven't changed any
settings on that. Should I have changed something on the router?
Thanks

Normally the router does not need any tuning, although you might
experiment with the MTU setting to see if it has any effect. Set MTU to
OFF, then to 1500, then to 1492 to see if it makes any difference. You
should run for a few days at each setting.
It is likely that you might see some immediate benefit from leaving the
router as it is and "tweaking" your PC connection following the
procedure at http://www.broadbandreports.com and using DrTCP.
