Max connection with motorola modem
Posted by Yann on October 7th, 2003

I have a motorola speedsurf modem.
When my peer to peer (emule) client run on my computer with a max connection
at 300 for few hour, the internet connection is out of service.
the only solution to estblish the connection again is to reboot the modem
(switch ON/OFF power).
Have you already seen that sort of problem ?
Do you know what is the max connextion a motorola modem support ?

My ISP has never seen this problem (according to him :-)

Regards.
Yann

What firmware version do you have. surfboard 4200 series modems with the
..4.4.0 or earlier firmware have issues causing the modem to freeze up when
too many connections where opened. aka gaming, edonkey, emule. etc... try to
lower the number of connections if your modem has the earlier firmware. If
you do have the earlier firmware, try to get your isp to update the
firmware. (good luck, you will need it). isp's frequently (some more than
others) update firmware to fix bugs.

Everytime you power on the modem. recycle the modem via the internal web
page - the firmware is downloaded to your cable modem.

For your firmware to be upgraded, the cable company must support and carry
that firmware.

You can try to hack your modem yourself - but your service will end up being
cut off, you maybe fined, and worse case - jail time :-)
