- Modem doesn't detect Ring (..or does it?)
- Posted by Binba on September 28th, 2003
Quite a strange problem... and I did tried a full search in the group
before posting :-)
Simply put, my modem doesn't detect rings - it doesn't even show any
RING on a terminal screen.
BUT, if I make it go on-hook for once (a simple ATD), it somehow
brings it back to its senses and then it detects rings fine - till the
next boot.
Modem is Pine 56K Internal Soft PCI, Conexant 11242
Computer is P3/733 192MB RAM , with Windows XP SP1
I also have an ADSL USB modem running alongside on the same computer
(so the modem is used for faxes). Notice, though, that the very same
modem and ADSL modem lived together on an older computer, and there
they both worked fine.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like the fax software is not initializing the modem on startup. Not
sure why but that is what it sounds like. It doesn't sound like a modem
problem but an application problem.
