- Modem drops connection, but says it's still connected
- Posted by Chaos Master on June 26th, 2004
Hello people.
A strange problem:
My modem will drop the connection, but Windows still thinks it's connected. If I
pick up the phone there's dial tone, if I dial to the number of the phone line
that's connect to my modem, the modem answers it.
Modem is a PCTEL HSP56 MicroModem. OS is Win98 SE. I tried various drivers for
this modem but it didn't help. The ISP I use is a local free ISP.
I have a friend, which has a Lucent modem (LT WinModem) and he has the same
problem.
There is no noise [1] on the phone line.
What is causing this problem? thanks.
If needed I will post modem logs.

[1] Actually, the noise is barely noticeable.

<INVALID.FAULTY.BUGGED@hotmail.com> put finger to keyboard and
composed:
Try the Windows 98/98SE Dial-Up Networking 1.4 Upgrade:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q285189
Conexant's website will probably have the latest PCtel drivers.
Another workaround is to end the "Rnaapp" task in the Ctrl-Alt-Del
task window.
You may have some luck in determining the reason for disconnection by
retrieving the modem's last call diagnostic report. The commands are
AT#UG or AT#UD.

I will take a look at this.
Also will try this when I get offline. (connected for 5 hours, my ISP is 90% of
the time giving the "Line busy" signal)
Thanks.
