Modem on hold
Posted by Shirley on August 16th, 2004

I just installed a Best Data Model 56FW9-D modem. I have a Compaq pc with XP
professional.
The modem installed with no problem and connects most of the time at a speed
over 40. I installed the netwaiting software and have the "telephone" icon
in the task bar. When I bring up the window for the icon it says, "Not
connected to a V.92 server". I also have checked the modem log and it says
it is connecting at V.90.
I have call forwarding and caller ID and my server, Netsync, from Fredonia,
NY (DFT communications) support the V92.
Do you have any idea what my problem could be?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shirley

The site below indicates that +PMH=0 enables MOH on V.92 connections.
You could add that to your extra settings. I'd also suggest you add
+MS=V92; as the first command in the string. Until you are able to
establish a V.92 connection, I don't think that the MOH function will
work properly. Of course, you must have Call-waiting feature on your
phone line enabled. There are some other hints at the site below.

Thanks for the info. I put the string in and it will still not connect at
V92 but it does notify me of a call. I am still messing around with it and
if I get it working exactly the way it is supposed to work, I will let you
know.
I appreciate your time and knowledge.
Thanks

put finger to keyboard and composed:

During training, your modem and ISP's equipment exchange a Calling
Menu and a Joint Menu which identify the protocols which your hardware
can support. I believe your modem has a Conexant HCF chipset, in which
case you can probably retrieve this CM/JM information after
disconnecting from your ISP. Use a comms app such as HyperTerminal to
query your modem with the AT#UG or AT#UD diagnostic commands. The
CM/JM info may confirm whether or not your ISP supports V.92.
