After running at 42k for months, now runs at 32k.A borrowed laptop on same socket runs at 46k.

That possibly indicates some modem damage has occurred. Try the usual
things like a new line cord, and removing everything else off the phone
line that the modem uses. Do you have any sort of surge protector on the
phone line? If so, remove it and try a test call. If none of these show
any improvement, post the modem log of a connection that is at least 15
minutes long. That way we can see what is going on with the modem. Have
you made any upgrades to the modem, such as going to V.92? If so, does
your ISP support V.92? When you say 32k, do you mean 32,000, as in
V.90/V.92, or do you mean 31,200, as in V.34+? Lot's of unknowns here.
Good luck.

That sounds like what happend to my Ambient HaM modem, I was dialing up
at 26.4k then it went to 21.6k. The surge protector didn't hurt the line or
anything, I think it's just slowly burning out or my isp is. Let me know
what you did because I still haven't been able to get my modem up to 26.4.
again on that modem again. I went out for another one and installed a usr
software modem, if you need a new modem the usr5660a is not very good with
gaming I just found out, but it has really good dial-up upload/download
speeds just not latency. My Intel's HaM one is the best so far for gaming.
If you don't need good latency for gaming that usr5660a is a great modem. I
have both installed, lol, I flip back a forth.

Well if you figure it out let me know too, the mystery modem speed dropper.
You know the power flickered once and I'm wondering if that messed something
up, very touchy those modems I see if that's the case.
