I need a softmodem or a separately one for Linux Fedora Core.
Kernel vmlinuz-2.6.9-1.667.

Any Suggestions are appreciated.

Fedora Core 3 out of box. The kernel in that release was updated at least
twice - I see kernel-2.6.12-1.1381_FC3 (October 2005) and
kernel-2.6.12-2.3.legacy_FC3 (February 2006) on the fedoralegacy.org ftp
server. The fact that the update includes the word 'legacy' in the name
means that the distribution is officially unsupported, and what little
support there is consists of back-ports from later releases. For what
it's worth, Fedora Core 6 was released last week.

See what modems are available where you shop. Then use a search engine like
groups.google.com to search for that make and model number and the word
Linux and see what others think of it - what kind of luck they've had.

I still have two systems with modems attached, and both are old USR 56k
externals attaching via the RS-232 serial port (they are back-ups to the
cable connection). I have tried two USB modems (one was a USR 5605, the
other a Zoom 2985L), and they worked (since given to my sister).

old thread. linux printers and modems are a frequent issue. i chose to use
an external serial USR. it works with BeOS, Solaris, etc. any operating
systems that require a network card can be run in Virtual PC via ICS.
