- Newly-Installed Charter Cable Modem Disabled Norton Email Scan
- Posted by Marcia on July 20th, 2003
I recently purchased a Charter Cable modem for faster internet access.
After the installation man left, I noticed that the icon for my
Norton Antivirus software is no longer present in my task tray (so I
assume it no longer loads automatically). When I open Norton, I see
a red "Urgent Attention" message beside my Email Scan.
1) I can't figure out how to get rid of the "Urgent Attention" message
regarding the email scanning ability.
2) I have also had no success in restoring Norton's ability to load
automatically. When viewing Norton's configuration settings, they are
all enabled to load automatically with Windows and to display the icon
in the tray.
Does anyone know what happened?
Thanks!
Marcia

It shouldn't have been disabled. Uou normally don't need any extra
software for cable modem access. You could try uninstalling/reinstalling
Norton's. You can also see if the uninstall routine has a Repair option.

Before your panic go to:
START
RUN
Type in: msconfig
hit enter
Here you should see your start up files. Click on the tab that says start up
(leave the other ones alone for now) and make sure that your Norton anitvirus
it still checked
