I bought a Broadxent v92 voice fax PCI modem, model DI 3631 and when I
went to install it, the software didn't instlall completely.
In win98 CP/System/Device Manager it said "NTKERN.VXD Device loaders
for this device could not load drivers (code 2.)". And there was a
button to reinstall the drivers. So I did, from the same place, and I
could see all the files being copied but nothing changed.
Then I put back the old modem and tried installing the new one as an
additional modem, for the Modems window. I said Have Disk, and picked
the drivers/win98 folder and then picked my modem of the two choices
it gave me. Then it said, "The file dsicat.cat on [unknown] cannot be
found. Setup had trouble copying a file. Click OK to try copying
the file again. I did that and the second time it ran. And in Device
Manager it showed 2 modems, neither of them in yellow, neither
mentioning a problem.
Then I exitted windows, and changed modems again, and started with the
new modem, and it didn't display any boxes on startup, but the modem
wouldn't work again and Device Manager showed the same NTKERN message
as above.
What should I do?
Thanks a lot.
Based on googling this message for NTKERN.vxd seems to relate to sound
cards and USB ports and winME also. Is upgrading from win98 to
win98SE likely to help?
I've tried to find updated drivers:
I went to the webpage listed in the instructions and it jumped over to
a Creative webpage, and after hunting for drivers (they were hidden
under Modem Blaster links, even though the Broadxent modem box etc.
doesn't mention this), I found a small number of them. I found the
manual for my modem (and only for my modem), but for different models,
that is, not 3631 but 5631 and 3652. The first number especially
seems similar to mine and I'm thinking maybe the 5 is the prefix for
the "same" model by Creative as this model by Broadxent.
On a Broadxent link
http://www.broadxent.com/support/sup...nloads_DSI.asp
I found my model but if I enter any of the 4 models, including mine,
and any of the OS's, it just gives a URL of HTTP:/// and when clicked
on Get Files, a box comes up and says the URL is not valid!!!
Before I email or phone them to try to track down updated drivers, do
you think that is the issue, or is it a strictly NTKERN problem?
(Spare text. disregard
:
If this message reappears, quit Setup and then try running Setup
again." I clicked OK and the whole modem setup disappeared. I had to
use cntl alt delet to cancel Install )
