PCI voice/fax modems for Vista
Posted by CarlosWA on February 1st, 2008

Please tell me what PCI modems that are for data, voice, fax and have
voice messaging and are compatible with Vista. The modem should be
currently available from a manufacturer (not old discontinued models).

Please do not refer to to lists of approved equipment for Vista as I
found they are not useful for modems.

Txs,
Carlos

Please price is not a concern, I suggest US Robotics 5610C. It's a
controller-based internal PCI modem, ie, not using any CPU cycles.

Since you only want PCI, many of these modems nowadays are only
controller-less or even worse, pure softmodems (which use the host CPU to do
part of the modems work). There are a few choices which are controller based
though. Aside from already mentioned USR and Zoom brands which do some PCI
products with onboard controllers, Multitech also do their ZPX range:

they may be globally rated, some important features (such as Caller ID) may
not work other than in the USA.

A caveat about the MultiTech MT5634ZPX-PCI-U : I went through
two of these (the second was a replacement of the first under the warranty).
On both, the voice over the phone became increasingly "scratchy" after
playing for a short time

For full duplex voice over the phone, I've had good luck with
the Zoom 3025C, for which Zoom has a Vista driver.
