After I re-read this I realized that the "pain in the ass"
statement didn't really qualify what I meant well. Let me clarify that
one, the pain in the ass was Time Warner, not the Cisco cable modem.
Time Warner tech support/"customer service" are difficult (and I'm being
nice here) to work with and they have no way for users to auto-provision
their own MAC address, you have to call them and spend 30 minutes on the
phone each time you want to change it, oh, and to add a new MAC for the
first time on the account it's a 3 day process they tell me, come on,
what a joke!

Finally, I'm pretty sure the DOCSIS config file they're sending me is
kind of screwed and doesn't work properly because my modem never did work
in a straight bridging config, I could get an IP via DHCP but that's it,
no traffic ever flowed. I think they're pushing a bunch of junk (ACLs)
into there that's preventing it to forward anything but DHCP packets in
bridge mode, to get mine working I had to turn off DOCSIS compliant bridge
mode and use 'cable-modem dhcp-proxy' with NAT like the poster previous to
this mentioned. I'm sure if I spent about 500 hours on the phone with
them that I may be able to find someone there that understood the
problem but then they'd probably tell me they're not allowed to
provision my MAC/modem with a working configuration because they don't
support it these as far as I know.
