There are heaps of drivers at askey.com, but I've
no idea which one to get.
I found 2.1.25 at
http://www.toast.net/support/00451/v92drivers.htm
According the Readme, they got it from modemsite.com
There is a review of the chipset at
http://modemsite.com/56k/sv92p.asp
and drivers available at
http://modemsite.com/56k/premiumc.asp
every version from 2.1.18 to the latest 2.1.31
You need to register to get them - minimum charge is
US$1.50 for a one month subscription.
The link from that webpage doesn't seem to work.
Got that. Thanks.
Actually I got it from
http://www.lectron.net/download/Updt%20Drivers.htm
which you get to after the Flash page.
I still don't know exactly what brand this modem is,
and if the drivers from other brands will work on it too,
why Agere doesn't provide a generic driver like modemsite.com.
I found this message from another person who had problems with 2.1.6
sillydog.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1412&view=next
From webpages I have found I get the impression that SV92P modems are
good, fast and cheap, but the early drivers were bad and updates are
hard to track down

I think modemsite.com gets their drivers direct from Agere, but I think it's
pitiful that you have to join their service to get them. You have Ed Schulz
email address in this message. Maybe he could email the latest drivers to
you. It won't hurt to ask. It may have something to do with modem makers
buying the chipsets and drivers from Agere, so they wouldn't like it if Agere
gave them away. V.92 technology seems to be improving as time goes on. Also
if you have a computer that is manufactured by some name brand company, like
Dell, Compaq, Gateway, etc., you might find recent driver updates on their
support pages. My daughter had a recent hard drive crash on a Compaq
computer. I installed a new HD, then went to Compaq and downloaded all the
needed drivers, video, sound, modem, from there. Many of them were recent
versions. Good luck.

Maybe modemsite.com pays for them too, like the manufacturers.
As I've seen several people do.
Maybe Ed doesn't mind but it just seems there ought to be a
better way to get them from Agere.
They haven't any problem with giving away drivers for the LT Win Modem.
Is that a complete modem (vs. a chipset sold to modem manufacturers)?.
Video and audio chipset manufacturers publish generic
drivers on their websites, along with disclaimers
warning that you should use customised drivers from
video/sound card manufacturer if possible.
Generic drivers are useful when the card is
unbranded or made by a company that is dead or has
no website.
I found this post from Ed.
.... yet ... he says. So it may happen someday.
Maybe there are problems guaranteeing that
it will work with every modem. I dunno.
I don't know if my ISP supports V.92. All I need is V.90.
No, it was assembled in a computer shop from parts.
The only brand names it has are Gigabyte for the MB,
Intel Celeron CPU, Sony CD-RW etc. Nothing on the modem except
Agere on the chips.
The FCC ID prefix is MUL which is listed as Chenming.
But they seem to make PC cases only.
This may seem like a lot of trouble for a $10 part,
but I'm mainly trying to show my friend that the disconnections
were caused by her noisy line and buggy modem driver,
and not by my ISP.

In the case of the "Agere Win Modem," we were able to build one generic
driver that ran everywhere. Agere Systems still makes that driver available
at http://agere.com/entnet/modem_driver2.html. There are several reasons we
cannot do that for the PCI and AC'97 / HD Audio soft modems, though.
Soft modem packages sometimes are customized for the modem hardware or the
PC in which they are sold. While the agrsm.sys file of a given version is
common across platforms, the modem .inf file and ancillary files may differ.
So we simply cannot post a single driver package that would match the
feature set of your original modem.
We make driver updates available to our paying customers -- the modem and PC
manufacturers -- on a regular basis. If they do not post updates on their
web site quickly, is that our problem? I don't think so.
Our large PC OEM customers want to suport you, their customers (even if it
doesn't always seem like it when you call), and so they do not want you
getting modem drivers from other places. There are still legal proceedings
around V.90 modem intellectual property, and the attorneys tell us that it's
important to honor these agreements with our customers.
I provide driver packages to modemsite.com because it seems to reduce the
volume of requests that Agere Systems receives from modem users around the
world. When we sell a modem chipset, end-user support is not part of the
deal. We have nothing to do with the subscription policy at modemsite.com.

Solo modem with a Lucent Venus chipset in it and I want to ensure I've
ironed out all the bugs in the updated XP compatible inf I've come up with
(the native XP supplied one is buggy so I started with the Win 9.x inf which
is the latest released by the modem maker which went bust). I know that
softmodem drivers will not be applicable to my "antique" modem but I'm
curious. Do you also provide the same drivers you offer to the subscription
based website, on Agere's own website where they can be accessed for free?

No. That's what I tried to explain in my earlier posting.
