USB data modem inf setting to change CallSetupFailTimer (Win2K andlater)
Posted by Bala on December 7th, 2007

I am trying to change the default value of CallSetupFailTimer for a
USB data
modem (modem + usbser) to something greater than 60 (which is the
default).

I am unable to change the value to anything greater than 60 seconds.
Works for
any value <= 60 seconds. (both XP and 2K) . I can verify the value by
looking
at the modem device properties and also see what is being used when
connecting
to the modem using hyperterminal.

1) Can some other setting impose this limitation of 60 seconds ?

2) I think I can also Extra initialization commands ( using
"UserInit" ) to set
this to a higher value. Any limitations in using this approach ?

Would appreciate any kind help /direction on this one

Thanks,
Bala

According to an associated MSDN page also relating to the subject: you need
to use the Windows DDK tool Procalc to come up with the properties setting
above. How was that obtained originally? Also going by the link you
provided, it looks as if the actual useful part in this regard is the
CallSetupFailTimeout value where as the CallSetupFailTimer should have an
'#' entry for the actual value.

I'm curios as to why you need more than 1 minute after dialling for the
modem to detect a carrier. Even the slowest of servers would surely pick up
the call and be well and truly connected by then or do you know someone
who's configured their server to answer on the 20th ring??
