V.92 DSI Voice/Data Modem
Posted by Bruce De Witte on September 10th, 2003

I have a problem which is driving me bats. I am using a PCI DI3631 modem.

The modem wants to use the chassis speaker! All another audio devices use
the PC speakers, so I know the speakers, audio chip, etc. are working.

When the modem tries to dial out, I hear the tones only in the chassis
speaker, but the phone does connect. When I answer the phone, all audio is
highly distorted & "squeally". If I try to talk via the PC microphone, the
audio is through the chassis speaker.

If a person tries to leave a voice mail (nearly impossible to do because all
directions are distorted, the recorded voicemail is highly distorted.

It appears as though the voicemail software is working fine, but all modem
audio is going through the chassis speaker.

Also, when I disable the BIOS PCI Audio Controller, I get no audio from any
device.

I also checked the IRQ, and the modem is by itself on IRQ# 20.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Bruce

Have you connected a cable between the modem and the sound card?
