Winmodem Baud Rate Setting
Posted by Mr. D. on September 6th, 2004

On true hardware based modems, all you needed to do in order to set
the modem's baud rate, was change the baud setting from within the
terminal program's options, and the modem would connect using that
baud rate. This doesn't seem to be the case with Winmodems. My
Winmodem totally ignores the baud rate set from within the terminal
program, and it continues connecting using V90.

Is there a way I can make my Winmodem understand the baud rate that's
being set from within the terminal program, and connect using that
baud rate? I don't want to keep typing the 'AT+MS=' command everytime
I want to use a lower baud.

My modem is an internal Conexant Soft56K HSF Modem.

Add the AT command to the "Extra Settings" box in your modem
properties. In WinXP: Control Panel->Phone and Modem
Options->Modems. Select your modem and click on Properties. On
the Advanced tab, there is an "Extra Settings" box to enter your
command. Just type AT+MS=v34 or whatever command works best for you.

This should work in a terminal program or any other Windows program
that uses the modem. Of course, your mileage may vary.
