- Automatic Connection with Windows Messenger 4.7
- Posted by Charles de RUFFRAY on January 18th, 2006
Hello everybody,
Here is my problem:
* When I connect to the Internet, Windows Messenger will automatically
connect with my .Net Passeport account.
=> How can I "tell" to Windows Messenger that I don't want it to connect
automatically?
=> It remembers my user name and my password, but I don't want that. How can
I delete from the memory my user information?
NB: I don't have this problem with MSN Messenger, which is laos installed on
this computer.
Thank you if someone has an answer for me!

Greetings Charles,
Windows Messenger uses the same saved Passport credentials that MSN Messenger uses. This is
why you're seeing this problem.
Instead, I'd suggest that you simply disable Windows Messenger from automatically starting.
You can simply disable Windows Messenger. To do so, open it up (click Start, then Run, type
"msmsgs" and click OK), click Tools, Options, Preferences tab and uncheck 'Run this Program
when Windows starts' or 'Run Windows Messenger when Windows starts' (depending on version) as
well as 'Allow this program to run in the background' or 'Allow Windows Messenger to run in
the background' (depending on version).
If you're trying to do something else, I'd suggest creating another Windows XP account.
However, there are a few other options if that doesn't work out for you.

Hi Jo,
Thank you for your answer! Yes it does resolve partially my problem:
WinMessenger does not start automatically anymore.
BUT there is still one problem: it still has in memory my account and, more
annoying, my password.
=> When I open Windows Messenger, it will sign in with my account without
asking for ID (n)or password. As this is not MY personal computer, I don't
want this to be so.
Thank you in advance for your next answer!

Yeah - I've got the same issue - can't find a way to turn off the "automatic
sign on"

Found it:
To get the behavior you want, click the Start Button, then click the Control
Panel. Then,
