Can't access MSN Messenger or Hotmail Error: 80048820
Posted by Veroz on December 5th, 2005

I recently purchased the D-Link DI-604 broadband router. Since I got it
I have been unable to log into any of Microsoft's services.

I run MSN and get the error: -Sorry, we were unable to sign you into
the MSN at this time. Please try again.- The error number *80048820* is
at the bottom of the message.

I try the troubleshoot and everything gets a tick next to it, which I
am guessing is good. Still, it doesn't help me get anywhere.

I goto Hotmail and try to log in there. I can put in my address and
password. I goto sign in, but my inbox doesn't load. I am left with a
blank screen.

Are there any specific ports that I have to unblock/forward to get this
to work? I would have guess that MSN and all wouldn't be blocked in the
first place. Strange, eh?

Thanks for your time.

I had exactly the same problem with my D-Link DI-604. Finally, a friend who
also had this problem told me about a setting in the router to change.

Browse to the router's IP address in IE or Firefox, which for me is
192.168.0.1 and probably the same for all D-Links.

Under the "Home" tab and the "WAN" sub-tab, there is a field called "MTU".
Try setting this to 1392. That's all we did and neither of us had any
problems since.
