- Email Messages are Blank
- Posted by Beth on October 10th, 2005
This is very confusing - if I get 2 messages from the same person, same
e-mail address, sometimes one of them will be totally blank. The message
shows up in my "inbox" and shows it is a certain size (18mb) but when I open
it, the entire message is blank - the "From" "Subject" "CC" all bars are
blank, and the message is blank. But I can open another message from the
SAME Sender and it will open just fine! What is going ON?

18 MBytes is a large email. Some servers through which your email is routed
might not accept messages that big. It's possible that one email took one
route and one email took another route - perhaps one went through a server
that deletes oversize email?
If you need to exchange large amounts of data it's much better for your
friend to post the data on his or a web site and then email you a link to
it.
If you need more security then perhaps consider setting up a VPN (Virtual
Private Network) or encrypt the data.

I think I wrote the message wrong, the size of the messages are kb's, they
are not too big, because I get messages from the same sender all day long but
they are not Mega (sorry...) It is driving me crazy - is this a worm or
virus?

Ask the sender to check their "sent" box to see..
a) Were two messages sent?
b) Was a blank email sent?
Also
c) What happens if they re-send the missing message - is it still blank?
d) Does anyone else get blank messages from this person? That would tell you
if the problem is at the senders end.
If their PC was infected with a virus your ISP or another computer in the
path between you might delete the message... but sometimes if they do that
they replace it with a warning.
It's also possible the email headers were faked - eg your friend wasn't the
sender by a virus or other malware faked the source address.

Hey C:
It seems that MSN is experiencing Server Trouble and are having issues with
Synchronization between the server and computers... my problem is repeated
across the country; I am suprised not to see more messages about it.
I got MSN Tech Support on the phone and although it took 2 calls and over 2
hours time, we reconfigured my e-mail, cleaned it out, re-installed
something, and I am going through on the online server (Hotmail) instead of
Messenger directly off my Home Page to get my e-mail. That seems to be a
temporary fix for now. MSN does not know how long it will take to fix their
server issue.
Thank you for trying so HARD to help me. Nice Neighbor!
