Error Message 0xc0000005
Posted by trinirdm on January 8th, 2008

I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 which uses Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2
Operating System. Whenever I try to install Windows Live Messenger (any
version), I am getting an error message saying : Application Failed to
Initialize properly (0xc0000005). I understand this error code is associated
with Sony Vaio computers, but I have a Dell Inspiron 6400. Can someone please
tell me how I can solve this problem so that I can get messenger to run
properly. I have been experiencing this problem since last October and no one
at Dell or Microsoft has been able to help me!!!!!!

Greetings,

It's not specifically the Vaio itself, but the Sony software on it. Go over to Add or Remove
Programs in the Control Panel and look for some (especially SonicStage) and remove it.

Greetings,

Yeah, that'll be the Sonic CD Recording software which is completely unrelated.

I'm afraid I don't really have much more of a solution for you that would work over the
newsgroups, unless you want to end up uninstalling all the software on your system.

What you could do though, is use MSN Messenger 7.0, which shouldn't have this problem and has
most of the features of Windows Live Messenger anyway:

Jonathan when I try Removing the Sonic software I am getting msg saying: The
feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.
Can you or anyone else who is reading this suggest how I can get this
software off my computer? It is causing me so much problems. I even tried
installing Messenger 7, but still the same error message, even though I have
disabled the Sonic DLA.

Hi,

Well like I said, the Sonic software you've mentioned has -nothing- to do with Sonic Stage
(which is a Sony product). It is very unlikely that removing it will solve your problem as
no one has reported the problem before with Sonic's products.

What other kinds of problems are you experiencing? It's possible what you're seeing is the
result of a larger problem. Did this just start occurring or..?

As a workaround for the time being, you could try a third-party client like Pidgin
(www.pidgin.im), Trillian (www.trillian.cc), or Miranda (www.miranda-im.org) which will at
least get you onto the Messenger network.
