- Max Bandwidth?
- Posted by nychojin on May 18th, 2006
Hello,
Does anyone know what the maximum video bandwidth requirements are for
Windows and Office Messenger? I would like to set up my office with video
conferencing but I want to make sure I have the maximum amount of bandwidth
reserved for it. Thanks!

Greetings,
Actually it's designed to accommodate whatever bandwidth is available from narrowband speeds
all the way to ~100Kbps (or similar, I don't actually know for a fact what Office
Communicator is doing).
Even the standard 10Mbps local network should be fine and unless your network has some high
bandwidth applications going on, I would expect you wouldn't even notice Messenger video
occurring.

1mbps will be enough for video+audio with very good resolution ( with
good codec of course , like wm9 ).

Hi,
Office Communicator doesn't use WM9 has a codec. It uses the RTC APIs just like Messenger
does.

Hi,
Yes. Windows Media 9 codecs aren't fast enough on today's hardware.
