MSN Messenger Upgrade
Posted by Neal Walters on November 18th, 2005

I'm running Win XP SP2 and MSN Messenger 7.5. When I click Activities
Whiteboard, it says

"Your invitation was not sent because you need the latest version of
Windows Messenger to use the Whiteboard feature. Please go to ... "

When I click the link I end up on this page:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/messenger/ and download button takes me to
"Win XP SP2" download, which I'm already running.

I'd like ot use the whiteboard/remote assist, and application sharing
features.
By the way, is NetMeeting dead now? Did MSN messenger totally replace it?

Thanks for any advice on this conundrum.

Greetings Neal,

Yes you need to have Windows Messenger installed (you don't actually have to use it) to use
this function in MSN Messenger.

You can grab Windows Messenger from here:
http://microsoft.com/downloads/detai...f-9157a3b3d774

As for Netmeeting, it's still there (replacement is debatable), but MSN Messenger will not
show the Netmeeting option in XP. You'll need to start it manually by clicking Start, then
Run, typing "conf" and then connecting manually to another IP.
