- Security Problem
- Posted by Dan Butcher on February 10th, 2006
When a friend tries to send me an MP3 file via MSN, it transfers, then when I
try to open it, I am told that it poses a security risk, and denies access to
the file. There is no option I can see to disable this, and also no override
option on the dialogue box. How do I gain access to these files? Especially
as I have had to pay for the bandwidth to receive them - several people have
tried to send me various files with no luck.
I'm running WinXP Home with SP2, and MSN build 7.5.0311
Thanks

Greetings Dan,
Yes this is by design. To fix this, download and run the following .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/downloads/extfix.reg
You'll need to restart Messenger to see the change.
