SIP Communications Service in Windows XP Home
Posted by mail2man on May 8th, 2006

Hi,

I have Windows XP Home Media Center Edition.

When I try to sign-in Windows Messenger after connecting to my Company's
domain via VPN, I get following message - "SIP Communications Service failed
because the sign-in name, username, or password is incorrect, or the
authentication service is not compatible with this version of the program. If
you have signed in correctly and the problem persists, contact your network
administrator."

The other applications such as Outlook run perfectly fine, but I am having
problems with Windows Messenger. I came accross following link when I
searched on this problem -
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;830539

As per this link one of the reasons for the issue could be - 'The computer
is running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.'. I was able to log in from my
collegue's notebook which run Windows XP Pro.

Is there a workaround for this issue?

Thanks.
