stolen laptop with messenger enabled
Posted by Enrique A on February 2nd, 2006

on Jan 26th my laptop was stolen with other stuff from my house, My hope is
that when the burglars plug it in and hook it up to the internet my
automatic messenger will log in and I'll be able to see that happening from
my other messenger account. How can I track the IP address of the burglar so
I can give to the police department that has my case ?

Is there a messenger anti-theft department that keeps track of IP and login
name ?

Thanks

There is no way for _YOU_ to see the IP address of someone else on MSN
Messenger, besides it would be unethical (Though I understand your
reasoning).

As far as I know, Microsoft wouldn't care to look into the records for that
sort of information unless there was some sort of warrant for it. You could
contact MSN support, but I honestly don't think you're gonna get anywhere
with it.
Sorry.

Call them up! Tell them a friend said they knew where to get a cheap laptop.
Tell them you want to buy one! Arrange to meet etc..
