- 4 port KVM switch problem
- Posted by its_spreading@sbcglobal.net on January 4th, 2005
Hello everyone!
I think my problem is pretty unique, considering tech support couldn't
help and I've had no luck searching for it in these groups or anywhere
else for that matter.
Here's the stuff:
KVM Switch - Linksys SVIEW04 4-port PS2 KVM switch
Cables - Linksys SVPS06 PS2 Video cables w/PS2 mouse/kb connections
Video cards - both machines have Radeon 9800 Pro's in them
Moniter - 21 inch Dell LCD
Here's the problem:
For some clarification one of the machines is a Dell the other is a
machine I put together with an AMD chip in it so the two machines are
going to be differenciated by DELL and AMD.
lines" scroll from left to right, no matter what application I'm in or
if I'm in one at all. When the switch is set to the DELL a "ghosting"
of the background from the AMD machine scrolls from right to left. I've
tried different cables, using different DVI to 15 pin converters, and
using different outputs on the switch (1&2, 3&4, 1&4 and so on). It was
a gift and I don't even know where to return it, if I even can, so I'm
pretty much screwed in that department, so if anyone has any
suggestions to my problem, anything, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Bryan

Try switching the KVM cables from one machine to the other if the problem
replicates but reversed then its your KVM Switch

Almost certainly, your video cables suck.
Either spend some money for good ones, or learn to love VNC ;-)

Does the KVM support the video resolution your running? If it does,
the cables aren't up to the task.

Thanks for all your help. Turns out the video cables did in fact suck.
Got some indunstrial low-loss ones (I'm running at 1600x1200 on both
machines) and everything is working fine. I figured the cables would
work fine since they were manufactured by the same company that made
the switch (linksys).
Thanks again
