- ADSL cable connection
- Posted by Bob Byrne on September 13th, 2003
Hello,
I have an ADSL modem connected to a NIC.
Sometimes I lose line sync and have found I may have a faulty
RJ-45 connection. When I push the cable into the NIC I get my sync
back but my (USB) keyboard and mouse freezes and I have to reboot.
Should I be able to remove and reconnect this cable without any problems
while my PC is running?
I'm using Win XP Pro.

"Should" in what sense? I've done it under other operating systems,
but that doesn't mean Windows XP Pro is clever enough to allow it.

I know you can hot swap USB hardware but not sure about cabling that
connects to something using the PCI bus.
I just assumed that networking cables could be connected and disconnected
while the PC's are running and thus add or remove a networked PC at will.
