Attempting to network a desktop and a wirelessly connected laptop
Posted by admiral_victory@iol.ie on May 29th, 2005

I have a d/t with XP Pro-SP2 and a laptop with W2K SP4.

The d/t is linked to a Linksys wireless-equipped router by cable to
an Ethernet card and through an external DSL modem to the phone line
and receives broadband web access through this setup.

The laptop is linked wirelessly to the router and connects to the Web
by this means.

The laptop is named "ltop1" and the desktop is named "DTOP" , both
being members of a workgroup named "WORKGROUP"

The desktop , laptop , router and DSL modem all have separate IP
addresses and can all PING each other.

What I want to do now is network both machines so that I can share
files and the printer which is attached to the desktop.

If I click on My Network Places on the laptop I get the message "
"Workgroup is not accessible"

What steps do I need to take to effect this , please ?
