D-Link router as access point

Does anyone know if a D-Line DI-784 Wireless router can be configured to
be just a wireless access point? I can't figure out how to turn its
DHCP server option off. I already have a DHCP server and router on the
network, I just want wireless devices to be able to connect.

Simple

Look at page 20 in your router manual and just select the "DHCP Server"
disable button.

Don't use the WAN port for any connections. Only use any or all of the 4
LAN ports to connect it to your network.

I guess I goofed cause all this did was make the device unreachable.

Did you set the LAN interface of the Wireless router to the same subnet as
the rest of your LAN. As an example:

Current router LAN Addr as 192.168.0.1
Wireless router/AP LAN Addr as 192.168.0.2
DHCP server pool as 100 thru 150.
subnet mask as 255.255.255.0

Connect a patch cable between one of the LAN ports on your current router
to one of the LAN ports on the wireless router/AP.

You will then be able to get at the current router web interface through
192.168.0.1 and the wireless router/AP through 192.168.0.2

cheers

The problem I have is that I cannot get to the web interface of the
router to program it. I have tried resetting several times, but I still
cannot connect.

I believe the gui uses Javascript, which may be blocked by net-nanny
applications. Make sure you aren't routing your web requests to the router
through any proxy application(s)...

I don't think this is the problem. I was able to get to the web
interface before I turned off the DHCP, but not since. I've have hit
the reset button, but I still cannot reach the web interface.

Are you doing a hard reset to get it back to factory settings? I think you
have to hold the reset button in for some long period - check the user guide.
