Help with linksys wireless connection
Posted by lisa.plunkett@gmail.com on October 28th, 2005

I have a desktop computer which my linksys router is connect to with
cable modem, I can access the internet fine on my desktop, however, on
my laptop - which has the linksys wireless 802.11 G nic card- it shows
my signal strength at 100% and the connection to the router from the
laptop can be viewed, but the connection to the internet is grayed out.
I can not access the internet on my laptop but it has connection to the
router. What am I doing wrong? I had to get a new modem from my cable
provider because they updated their system and my modem was no longer
compatible with the new updated system, could it be a setting with the
new modem? Please Help.

Hi Lisa,

Not sure if this will help, but I have a Linksys wireless, "cabled" desktop
and a wireless Dell laptop...

Every once in a while I have the same problem you are having and to cure it,
I have to reboot "unplug" the Linksys... I also "unplug" the DSL modem to
reboot it. Be sure to shot off your laptop before rebooting the Linksys....
once your Linksys and cable/DSL modem reboots fully, fire up the laptop..

This should "re-connect" the communication between your laptop and Linksys,
and reset the proxy detection... at least it does mine...

Oh, mine also says "connection excellent" when I cannot surf the net...
reboot everything and boom.. detects proxy settings and now I can surf the
net...

Hope this helps
Dave
