firewalls. No need for any additional software on your machines.

That is right because a Software Firewall is a bit easier to handle
and it can easy help you to block not only incoming connections
because sometime you want to block outgoing connections or control
outgoing connections in that case a software firewall is more suitable
than a router firewall.
