How to Network Printer
Posted by aegon on December 31st, 2003

Hi,

How do I network my Lexmark 4039 10P printer?

The printer has an Ethernet card.

I can statically assign the printer an IP address and ping that
address from my 2 Windows XP machines.

However, I can't print to the printer or see the printer on the
network from either computer.

I also have the option of connecting the printer to one of the
computers using a Parallel port but I don't know how to access the
printer from the other computer...

Any thoughts are appreciated.

You mean when you run the Add Printer wizard, and choose network printer,
then you do not see the printer being picked up?

Well, this is your easiest option. After you're done setting up the printer
directly on one of the two computers, then you have to mark it as a
shareable printer from that computer. Then the other computer will be able
to access through the first computer. Your only disadvantage with this
method is that the computer that this printer is connected to must always
remain on if you want to print from the secondary computer.
