Networking a Laserjet with a Jetdirect?
Posted by ng_reader on August 4th, 2005

Sort of new to networking, although I know somethings.

I just stuck a working JetDirect NIC into my LaserJet 4, and uploaded to it
a more recent firmware, so I know it's networked.

Now how in bloody hell to I print to it?

(One machine is WinME, another is XP Pro, and yet a 3rd is XP home)

You use the JetDirect software to create a port on the machines from
which you want to print and to configure the printer drivers.

Assuming you've got an IP address configured correctly in the jetdirect
card (you can ping it from the machine you wish to print from) you just
need to create a standard TCP/IP port to print to it. This is fairly easy
in XP; I'm not sure how to do it in that other thing they call an OS.
